Welcome back to the 2020/21 Modified House League Hockey Season. With the covid restrictions in place this year, our hockey season not look the same as in past years, but it will still be filled with lots of hockey. What we know is that the GCGH Hockey season will commence the first week of October. Associations are not permitted to hold “sort outs” therefore, we will be using a modified approach to making the teams.
As per the OWHA rules, we will formulate “bubbles” of a max of 50 players. This might mean keeping all of the GCGH teams together or maybe splitting them up with Ottawa, Russell or Rockland teams. We will work with the coaches at each level to determine what the feel will be best for their level.
To date, we have formulate “Shadow Teams”. These coaches will use the first 2 weeks of ice time to refine the teams (balancing skill and friend requests). The season will focus on individual skill development, skills and drills. But we will also be engaging in scrimmages, 3 on 3, 4 on 4 or even 5 on 5 depending on the numbers.
Hope this answers some questions and feel free to reach out to VPHouse or Senior House Director with any questions.
